Born: August 13, 1982 - Munich, Germany
Born Gil Doron Reichstadt Ofarim (nickname: Gili) in Munich but now resides in Schwabing, Germany. Has 1 brother Tal which is also his best friend.
The family name Ofarim was apparently adopted by his father so Gil’s full name is now Gil Doron Reichstadt Ofarim. Gil means joy or happiness in Hebrew, Doron means gift and Ofarim means Bambies (?) He is the son of Abraham Reichstadt (born 5 October 1937 in Zafed, near Nazareth), who was internationally famous in the 60’s as Abi in the duo Esther & Abi Ofarim singing million seller Cinderella Rockefella in 1968. Abi and Esther married in 1961 but divorced in 1970 and Abi was living with Sandra when Gil was born. Abi and Sandra were married in 1983 but divorced in 1995.
When he was about 14 Gil was spotted by a talent scout from the German youth magazine Bravo and was cast as Tobias in the TV series “2 + 2 = Liebe”, an acting stint that was only brief. At that age Gil was also a talented tennis player and was a member of the German National Junior team playing in ATP tournaments and had a promising tennis career ahead of him. His musical abilities started to become apparent at 14-15 years of age and he released his first single “Round ‘N’ Round” in November 1997.
Gil was faced with a difficult choice at that time – pursue his tennis career or become a full-time entertainer. He obviously chose the latter, much to the joy of his fans.
